No thats not the French flag, it's the state flag of Iowa. Closely resembling that of France, Iowa's flag has three vertical stripes, one blue, one red, and one white. In the center lies a bald eagle carrying a banner with the words, "Our Liberties We Prize, and Our Rights We will Maintain", the state motto, and it was adopted in 1921.
Iowa also has the largest population of Danish ancestry in the country with Elk Horn being the largest Danish settlement in the U.S. You could compare Iowa to a Medieval castle in that it, essentially, is surrounded by a moat. Its eastern and western borders are created by the Mississippi and Missouri rivers and it is the only state to have this.
The town of Sabula, Iowa is also one of two towns in the entire United States situated on an island. If you had corn for dinner you should send a special thanks to Iowa farmers. Over one-tenth of U.S. food supply comes from the state, and it is the top producer of soybeans and corn.
Aside from farming, Iowans also place an emphasis on education. Always a leader in the improvement of school systems, the state has had some of the highest SAT and ACT scores in the country for the past ten years. Iowa is also a leader in politics, as every four years they are the first state to hold caucuses.
