Administrator and Executor bonds (also called Probate Bonds) are required by county courts in Louisiana of persons appointed to handle a deceased's estate. These bonds generally guarantee that all the estate debts will be satisfied and that the remaining assets will be properly distributed to the appropriate heirs. Because of the complexities involved, the surety usually requires that the applicant obtain the assistance of an attorney, although we do have markets that will consider bonds for qualified applicants without an attorney. Bond amounts are determined by the court. Bond premiums must be paid annually until the estate is properly settled.

Executor Bond - Required when the deceased left a Will and named someone in the Will to serve as executor. The surety will usually want to see a copy of the Will to determine to complexity of handling the estate in Louisiana

Administrator Bond - Required when the deceased died intestate (without a Will). The court will usually appoint one of the primary heirs to serve in this capacity. Assets should be dispursed in accordance with the state's laws in Louisiana.

Trustee Bond - Usually required when a deceased leaves a Will and designates to leave some assets "in trust" to a beneficiary. In all cases, the surety must review a copy of the Trust.

Jazz music and Mardi Gras make their home in the state of Louisiana. At one time the state was owned by the French and is, therefore, how it got its name. Louisiana, literally meaning, "Land of Louis", was called so for the King of France, Louis XIV.

It is this French heritage that makes up the culture of Louisiana today. Over 15 percent of Louisianians' have French ancestry, with 7 percent speaking only French today. It is the only state to be divided into parishes, rather than counties.

With the Gulf of Mexico to its southwest, fishing plays a large role in the economy of the state. It is the largest producer of crawfish in the world. Shipping is also a big industry and the Port of South Louisiana is the largest in the western hemisphere.

The close proximity to the Gulf leaves the state prone to hurricanes. In 2005, Louisiana suffered the affects of Hurricane Katrina, the worst recorded storm in the states history. Much of the area around New Orleans and other southern towns are still recovering.

The city of New Orleans is Louisiana's largest and is one of the largest "jazz scenes" in the United States. Many famous musicians, like Louis Armstrong, have come out of New Orleans. The city has also recently earned the name, "Hollywood South", because many films, including: The Pelican Brief, Glory Road, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, have been filmed there.
