The state of Pennsylvania is one of the most historical places in all the United States, and it also holds many famous firsts for our nation. It became the only member of the original 13 colonies not to share a coast with the Atlantic Ocean, in 1787. Making it the 2nd state admitted into the Union.
The city of Philadelphia was also the first capital of the United States, where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776.
At one time, the largest city. Philadelphia was also the location of the first "Presidential Mansion, the birthplace of the original American Flag (created by Betsy Ross), where the first newspaper was published, the home of the countries oldest zoo, and is where the first computer was used.
Not to mention the home of the Liberty Bell, Philly Cheesesteak, soft pretzel, water ice, and TastyKake Corporation. The town of Pittsburgh is also one of the top steel producers in the world.
The city has more than 300 sets of steps, more than any other in the United States. If the steps were to be spread out they were be over 26,000 feet high, taller than most mountains in the Himalayas. In Indiana County, Pennsylvania, more Christmas Trees are produced every year than any other place on earth. Speaking of Christmas, every year on December 25, there is a reenactment of George Washington crossing the Delaware River. The town of Franklin has been a world oil producer since oil was discovered in Titusville, Pennsylvania, not far away.
